GENERAL SESSION
Voices in the Wilderness - Farther from Home, Closer to God - Scott Woodruff
Our busy world is filled with a thousand voices demanding our attention. A powerful way to shut out the clanging voices is to put yourself into God's wilderness and away from the things of man. From scripture, personal experience, and church history, Scott Woodruff will offer encouragement and inspiration about uniques and life-changing ways you may encounter God if you leave your gadgets at home and head for the woods.
WORKSHOPS
Allagash Tails and Tales - Tim Caverly
A multi-media presentation to discuss Allagash Tails. Narrated by author and former Waterway Supervisor Time Caverly, the show includes music, scenic and historic photographs, as well as stories detailing Tim’s personal experiences while living in the woods. Canoeing down the river, people will experience the Allagash in a whole new way!
Natural Disaster Preparedness with Ready Freddy - Rachel Lindsey
Ready Freddy is ready, are you? What is a disaster? Prevention versus preparedness and how to prepare are all part of what you will learn about in this workshop.
Nature Drawing & Journaling - Barry Stebbing
Barry Stebbing, creator of How Great Thou ART Publications, has completed over 50 journals during his lifetime. During this workshop, he will guide young and old in how to approach drawing and studying from nature in a simple yet fundamental manner. Mr. Stebbing will also discuss many various pointers in keeping a nature journal, such as what to write about, what to draw, various materials and techniques, along with penmanship and creative writing. Please bring a sketchbook or journal if you have one!

Deer Hunting & The War Against the British - Jonathan Yellowbear & Lynn M. Sacobie
From Odaogam Living History Museum, this workshop will be held outside (weather permitting), and will include demonstrations of the bow and arrow, and matchlock and flintlock guns. An historical timeline of weaponology will be included, as well. There will also be a display of many other artifacts.
Concept of Odamogan Living History Museum - Jonathan Yellowbear & Lynn M. Sacobie
Founders of this project will share how they came to create this interesting and viable resource for history minded individuals or groups, students, schools and the general public, as well as what resources and programs they are able to offer.
Leadership Through Outdoor and Expeditionary Learning - Ripple Effect Staff
In this workshop, Ripple Effect staff will focus on the power of expeditionary/outdoor leadership education, and show how people of all ages can learn to be effective leaders through outdoor education and experiences. Through outdoor experiences with peers, people of all ages are able to glean truths about leadership, responsibility to self, peers and the world around us. Specific skills necessary to becoming leaders and the evolution of leadership will be highlighted, including: The Leadership Triangle; Skills necessary for becoming a self-leader; 4 C’s of being an effective team; Becoming a peer leader; the impact of wilderness on leadership education.
Christian Environmental Education - Raylene Hunt
Using the Bible and A Field Guide to Christian Environmental Education: A Complete Guide to Creation Care by Joel Light this workshop will review the Scriptural mandate for caring for God’s creation. It will include ideas and curricula available to help incorporate Creation Care/Environmental Education into homeschooling.
Birds of Prey! - Hope Douglas
Wind Over Wings will bring four special raptors who are each individuals and each has a story. The birds include an American Kestrel (a flacon on the Threatened List); Maine's largest owl, the Great Horned; Maine's smallest owl, the Saw-whet; and a magnificent Red-tailed Hawk. Thes birds are unable to be released back to their natural habitat due to injury. The program is humorous, educational and inspiring.
Outdoor Career Opportunities - Tom Charles, Wayne Littlefield, Kent Nelson, Ed Green
A panel of experts from around the State of Maine who work in the great outdoors will gather to share briefly about their chosen professional field. A Q&A time will follow the presentation for those who are curious to know more.
Caving, Camping and Canoeing: Starting the Fun Without Ending in Disaster - Scott Woodruff
Awesome fun is just around the corner as Scott Woodruff teaches you the entry-level skills you'll need to set off to explor a cave, camp in the woods, or paddle the shining waters. You don't have to know a lot, but you need to be solid on a few basics to enjoy God's outdoor world to the fullest in a way that keeps risk of injury to a minimum.
A Day in the Life of a Fort Western Soldier - Pete Morrissey
Participants march, drill, scout and maneuver as if they were soldiers at the Fort during the French and Indian War, then analyze their experience in order to compare and contrast the idea of being a soldier during other eras.
Wildfire Prevention in Maine - Kent Nelson and Smokey the Bear
Maine Forest Rangers have been protecting forests and homes from wildfires since 1891. They have learned a lot about wildfire over the years. Forest Ranger and Fire Prevention Specialist, Kent Nelson, will share some of his knowledge about fire behavior and preventing wildfires in Maine. He will also demonstrate how to have a safe campfire, and how both kids and adults can work together to prevent wildfires from threatening homes.
ACTIVITIES
Sunday River Resort Outdoor Adventure Package
Thursday activities on the mountain will include geocaching and disc golf (must pre-register.)
Friday activities on the mountain will include geocaching, disc golf, bungee trampoline, and ziplines (must pre-register)! Minimum weight for zipline riders is 70 lbs. and minimum height is 3 ft. Maximum weight for zipline riders is 270 lbs. Bungy trampoline participants must be between 30 and 200 lbs.
Hiking and Nature Walks
Sunday River hiking and nature walk trails will be open and available any time for Outdoor Adventure Weekend participants. Trail maps will be available during the event for those who wish to take some time to explore the mountain on their own!
Orienteering - Dan Otis, Alert Cadets
This 2 hour activity will be broken into two sections: Instruction and Application. Participants will learn how to use a compass, take and follow a bearing, and measure a distance.
Archery - L.L. Cote Staff
LL Cote Archery Pro Staff will be offering a basic introduction to target archery for competition and recreation. This will include both compound and traditional bows.

How Great Thou ART, 2 Day Art Class - Barry Stebbing
Barry Stebbing is the creator of How Great Thou ART Publications. He has currently instructed over 60,000 homeschoolers in classes throughout North America. Mr. Stebbiing will be presenting his brand new Nature Drawing and Journaling class for the very first time in here in Maine! The class, which is being presented for FREE, is 2 ½ hours each day, and is for children and adults alike (ages 8 & up). Mr. Stebbing has completed over 50 journals during his lifetime. He also painted his way across America many years ago. He will share many pointers for studying God's creation. Homework on the first evening will include going outdoors to draw from nature!
Each student will need the following materials for class: set of 12 colored pencils ($6.00), set of water soluble markers ($5.00). set of 8 watercolor paints and a #6 round brush ($7.00). Sketchbook is optional ($4.50). These can be purchased upon arrival.

This wonderful program was filmed and produced in the studios of The American Family Association, and includes many delightful exercises for students drawing and studying from nature.
